BCIC holds historic Indian Diaspora meeting in Japan. More Japanese companies want to invest and expand in India.

The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), an Apex Chamber of Commerce representing large, medium and small industries in the State of Karnataka held a virtual meeting of the Indian Diaspora in Japan on Dec 17th as a prelude to the 70 th anniversary celebration of establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Japan in 2022.

BCIC becomes the first industry Chamber from India to operate from Tokyo, Japan with an objective of enhancing business opportunities between India and Japan, invite investments, people to people connect, promote tourism and share good practices.

The virtual meeting was graced by His Excellency Ambassador Sanjay Kumar Verma, Ambassador of India to Japan.

Mr. T R Parasuraman, Immediate Past President, BCIC gave a brief about BCIC Japan Office and termed it as a breakthrough in India Japan relationship. He also stressed on the areas of collaboration between the two countries in manufacturing, technology and services sector.

Dr. Murugesh Nirani, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Govt. of Karnataka speaking on the occasion highlighted the various initiatives taken by the Govt. to invite investments into the state of Karnataka. He emphasised the availability of skilled resources, good infrastructure for Japanese companies to have their bases in Karnataka.

Her Excellency Madam Sugita Akiko, Counsul General of Japan in Bengaluru gave an insight on the vast opportunities that exists and left untapped over the years to strengthen India and Japan relationship. She also spoke of the changing scenario in the current Covid-19 times and the geo-political changes happening in business front.

Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd and Past President of CII reminisced the changes that have happened in the vehicle mobility space in India over the past two and half decades through his partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan. He further called to strengthen the India Japan relationship and build on the past foundations laid.

Mr. Takashi Suzuki, Director General, JETRO, Bengaluru also spoke about the recent trends of over 70% Japanese companies inclining towards making investments and expand in India referring to recent global survey of about 7,800 Japanese companies in about 80 countries. He said that many Japanese companies operating in India wish to expand their operations here.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar Verma in his talk detailed on the need for innovation, co-working and co-production. He also stressed on the need for larger collaboration between India and Japan. We further welcomed the initiative of BCIC to have a setup in Japan.

Dr. L Ravindran, Senior Vice President, Mr. Kazumasa Kuboki, Chief Mentor – BCIC Japan, Mr. Hiroshi Yanagisawa, Managing Director, Toyota Tsusho India Private Ltd, Dr . K G Suresh, Country Head – BCIC Japan and other Indians residing in Japan also spoke on this occasion and stressed the need for a deeper and larger India Japan ties.

Mr. K R Sekar, President, BCIC in his remarks said that the year 2022 is the 70 th anniversary year and there are plans for having an India Japan Summit and more diaspora meetings and workshops. He said “Today is a historic day for state of Karnataka and for India. A Chamber of Industry and Commerce was able to connect with Indian Diaspora in Japan. This is a small step in the right direction. We plan to do an India Japan Economic Summit. We will see many more such events happening in 2022.”
